Why "conquering" your fear doesn't work very well

Jan 24, 2014

Have you asked yourself the question recently, "what the hell is wrong with me?" And more importantly, did beating yourself up actually fix anything? It never does for me.

That's just your fear monster talking.

What I've found, though, is that getting down on yourself doesn't help matters. In fact, usually that makes it worse.

Think about all of the things you've said to yourself in the last week (or, rather, that your fear monster has come up with!), and then ask yourself a couple of more productive questions.

1. Would you talk to someone you love like that?

2. If someone else spoke to you the way you speak to yourself, would you put up with it?

If the answer to either of these questions is "no," then guess what! You've found an area where you need to love yourself more. Bring your attention to this area, but do not judge it. It is what it is. Nobody is perfect. Give yourself the same compassion you would give anyone else you love.

I hope this helps, (and makes sense!) Let me know what you think in the comments. I will respond to them as soon as I can.

Lots of love!

P.S. If you can relate, George and I would love it if you would share this with your friends!
