Fear of Flying

Nov 07, 2014

Hello and happy Fear Monster Friday from beautiful Bali!

This week, as I was getting ready to fly to Bali for a writer's retreat, I found myself a little bit overwhelmed with all of the things I had to get done before getting on the plane. There was a lot to do! I got it all done! But while I was doing it, I was trying really hard to notice the difference between HAVING stress and BEING stressed.

There's no escaping stress. I'm sure even the wonderful people of Bali have some stress, but you'd never know it! They're so happy all the time. It makes me wonder how they do it. I'm sure a big part of it is choosing not to internalize the stress of life.

I'm not going to lie to you and tell you that I got everything done without internalizing any stress -- I did. But I think I did so a little less than the last time I was traveling out of the country. It's one of those things that takes practice. The more you practice, the better you get. I'm still batting 0%, but I'm getting closer to the ball!

And you know, of course George was totally freaked out about flying. But I have a physics degree, so every time the plane hit some turbulence, I reminded him, "We know why this works. We know why this works. We know why this works."

So, how are you doing? Do you have some stress? Do you think you can choose to have stress but not BE stressed? Do you have any Jedi mind tricks that help you do that? Let me know in the comments!

Sending you all a big warm hug from Bali!

Jillian
