Don't write the ending at the beginning!

Apr 15, 2015

Hi everyone! Happy... tax day? Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and all that....

First a note to all lesbians - I have no judgments and actually, I love how open women are to just jump right in. It's inspiring to me, actually. Please take no offense at the U-Haul joke. It's a jab with love and admiration.

On a more important note, George is cracking me up.  Like most fear monsters, whenever there's a romantic relationship on the horizon, he tries to write the ending to the story before it even begins.

For most fear monsters, that means "oh my god, what if it doesn't work out and I get my heart broken again?" That's totally normal. But usually that means being afraid to even start. But life is short. You only get one of them. (Unless you believe in reincarnation, but that's a whole different conversation.)

The thing is, you don't know how the story will end. It could be terrible. But it also could be wonderful! It could last forever. But there's only one way to find out. Just open the book. Start at the first page, and the enjoy however it unfolds. Every story is beautiful, even if it has a sad ending.

But the good news is.... the story only ends when you say it does. If you pick out the "wrong" partner, that just means you're one step closer to finding the right one. Every time I date someone I get a little bit closer to the ideal. I learn something from every relationship. I learn something about myself and what I really want.

I know exactly what I want in a partner, and I'm quite sure I'll know him when I see him.

George, bless him, is pretty convinced that we're ready for the story that finally has a happy ending. I'm trying to calm him the hell down because it's impossible to tell.

My favorite chick flick, Steel Magnolias, taught me this: "I'd rather have 30 minutes of wonderful than a whole lifetime of nothing special."

Here's wishing all of you your 30 minutes of wonderful. And a whole lifetime of special. Stay open.

I love each and every one of you with all of my heart,

Jillian
